The Couple Who Built Baffin Bay’s Premier Lodge

Meghan Brodnax and her husband didn’t set out to run a 10,000-square-foot luxury lodge. In fact, when she left her 9-to-5 refinery job, her sights were set on something much smaller. But like any great story in the outdoors, the best chapters are the ones you don’t see coming.

La Pesca Lodge — now a destination for discerning hunters, anglers, and adventure-seekers — started with a simple need: more beds for more fishermen. Her husband, Capt. Storm, already had a steady stream of guided clients on Baffin Bay, but they kept asking for more. Lodging. Meals. The full experience.

So Meghan rolled up her sleeves, cashed in her corporate life, and co-founded what would become their first business: Baffin Bay Fishing and Lodging. For three years, they pieced it all together through Airbnb rentals and word-of-mouth grit. But the math didn’t add up. They were sending too much money out the door and knew they needed their own space.

That’s when La Pesca found them.

With help from her dad, Joe — a seasoned hospitality mind from the family’s former bed-and-breakfast in Gruene, Texas — they went in on a property. The plan was simple: a functional home with space for clients. But Joe had bigger dreams. And when all was said and done, the “little house” had grown into a lodge unlike anything else on Baffin Bay.

A Lodge Built on Roots — and Risk

Today, La Pesca Lodge is a premier destination for hunting and fishing in South Texas, offering high-end comfort without sacrificing authenticity. But for Meghan, it’s more than a business — it’s her home, her family’s story, and the community she’s helping grow.

“Our clients have seen us through it all — the early days, our wedding, two babies, even cooking meals outside when the kitchen wasn’t finished,” Meghan laughs. “We cherish those people. It really does take a village.”

Every year, that village grows — from longtime guests to new partnerships. One of the most meaningful? BirdDog.

BirdDog & La Pesca: A Shared Vision

When BirdDog first brought a group to La Pesca, Meghan knew something was different. “They just get it,” she says. “They make sure every guest has what they need before they show up. They bring energy, cool gear, and great people.”

But it’s more than that. It’s about shared values: attention to detail, world-class hospitality, and making people feel like family.

“BirdDog and La Pesca both believe in creating unforgettable experiences that are easy to book and even easier to remember. We want our guests to feel like they’re the only ones that matter while they’re here.”

From curated group hunts to gourmet meals under the stars, the partnership thrives on those small touches. Meghan’s favorite memory? A BirdDog trip that included tequila tastings from La Caza and caviar around the fire. “We weren’t sure about the caviar at first,” she grins. “But it turned into one of those nights you don’t forget — just laughter, great food, and new friendships.”

What Makes La Pesca Different

La Pesca Lodge is the only luxury hunting and fishing lodge on Baffin Bay — famed for its trophy speckled trout. The lodge pairs top-shelf fishing and hunting with unmatched hospitality. Guests enjoy gourmet meals (shoutout to Maddie Witt and her fresh-baked desserts), curated outdoor experiences, and a sense of belonging you won’t find elsewhere.

“We want people to feel like they can kick off their boots and just be,” Meghan says. “Comfortable, welcomed, taken care of. Like family.”

It’s that feeling — rooted in the Brodnax family’s story — that keeps people coming back year after year.

Looking Ahead with BirdDog

For BirdDog, La Pesca isn’t just a partner — it’s proof of what happens when you mix heart, heritage, and hospitality. Whether you're an executive looking for a corporate retreat with character or a group of lifelong friends chasing their next duck blind memory, La Pesca is where the story sticks.

“If someone asked me why BirdDog partners with us?” Meghan says. “I’d say: why not? We’re both building something special. And we’re doing it the right way — with intention, passion, and people at the center.”
